Building a Marriage with No Ceilings

As we celebrate our anniversary, I want to take a moment to reflect on nine lessons I’ve learned alongside my wife but more importantly, alongside my best friend Dr. Samantha Faith Calhoun.

Our journey hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been purposeful. Two talented, driven, ambitious young people who were both used to leading, achieving, and pursuing excellence had to learn one of life’s greatest lessons: marriage isn’t about competing against each other it’s about competing with each other. When one of us wins, we both win.

Over these nine years, we’ve learned that marriage becomes whatever you’re intentional about building. We could have built a relationship filled with pride, ego, and keeping score. Instead, we chose laughter, love, grace, unforgettable memories, faith, and purpose. That choice wasn’t made just once on August 5, 2017 it has been a daily decision ever since.

People often ask if we’re the perfect husband and wife. My answer is YES! Not because we’ve gotten everything right, but because we’ve learned how to become what the other person needs in each season. We’ve learned that perfection isn’t the absence of mistakes; it’s the commitment to keep growing together.

The truth is, after nine years, I honestly feel like we’ve just stopped crawling and started walking. We’ve accomplished a lot, but I believe God has so much more in store for The Calhouns.

Stay tuned for our nine-week series, “A Marriage with No Ceilings built on Simply Faith” where every Monday over the next 9 weeks we’ll share one lesson we’ve learned on this journey. Through the lens of our personal perspectives No Ceilings (Jeremy) and Simply Faith ( drsamanthafaith ), we’ll reflect on the leadership, faith, friendship, and love that continue to shape our marriage.

I hope these lessons encourage you to grow in your own relationships, your purpose, and your walk with God.

Here’s to nine years…and everything that’s still ahead.
